The Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences approved the updated composition of the Expert Council under the Presidium of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences regarding the range of aspects of the Paris Climate Agreement. Kirill Sergeyevich Golokhvast, Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Science in Biology, Director of the Siberian Federal Scientific Centre of Agro-BioTechnologies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, joined the Council.
The Paris Climate Agreement was adopted on December 12, 2015, following the 21st Conference of the Framework Convention on Climate Change in Paris. The stated goal of the Paris Agreement is to prevent the global average annual temperature on the planet from exceeding the pre-industrial level by more than 2°C by 2100. Its participants undertake obligations to implement national plans to reduce emissions, technological re-equipment and adaptation to climate change and to revise them upwards every five years; to systematically reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere; to establish an international exchange of "green" technologies in the field of energy efficiency, industry, construction, agriculture, etc.
As part of the Akademgorodok 2.0 project, the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences is considering programs to switch Akademgorodok to low-carbon heat generation, and is developing projects to ensure better fuel combustion and reduce emissions of carbon monoxide into the atmosphere.
"Climate change is a global problem. Research organizations of agro-industrial, ecology, forestry sectors make their significant contribution to the activities on preservation of climate environment comfortable for mankind. The work that is carried out in the SFSCA RAS fully meets the objectives and requirements of the Paris Climate Agreement, and will be continued", - stated Kirill Sergeevich Golokhvast, Director of the Siberian Federal Scientific Centre of Agro-BioTechnologies of the SFSCA RAS.
