Buryat Scientific Institute of Agriculture (NIISKh) – a branch of the SFSCA RAS carried out the acceptance of field and production trials conducted within the framework of the 2026 research work in the areas of cereal crop breeding and seed production, berry crop breeding and medicinal plant introduction, improvement of adaptive crop production technologies, studying the effectiveness of fertilization systems and diagnosing plant nitrogen nutrition, as well as the creation of new sheep genotypes and innovative feeding rations in the Buryatia region.
As part of the work on breeding cereal crops, a competitive variety trial is ongoing, studying 17 samples of spring soft wheat, 10 samples of spring oats, and 18 samples of spring barley. In primary seed production nurseries, zoned and promising varieties of wheat, oats, and barley have been sown. For the state variety trial, seeds of the new spring barley variety Nuker and spring oat variety Tamir have been sent to the branches of the FSBI “State Variety Commission” at 11 variety plots in the East Siberian region.
Research on breeding berry crops continues. Blue honeysuckle, black and red currant varieties, as well as sea buckthorn, are currently being tested in a variety trial. A patent application has been submitted for a new blue honeysuckle variety called “Nina”, and a promising golden currant hybrid has been selected for further work. Rooting of 8,000 green cuttings of zoned varieties of berry and ornamental crops was carried out. In 2026, for the first time, a plot of medicinal and aromatic plants with a total area of 0.5 ha was laid out. It contains plantings of blessed milk thistle, membranous milk vetch, Baikal skullcap, and a collection of medicinal plants including 16 species.
A significant amount of research is being carried out in the field of agrochemistry and adaptive farming. At the institute's field station in the village of Ivolginsk, experiments continue on diagnosing the nitrogen nutrition of wheat under the conditions of the dry-steppe zone of Buryatia. Soil and leaf diagnostics of plant nitrogen nutrition are conducted at various stages of development, including before and after foliar feeding. At the same time, remote photography of crops is being carried out in the visible and near-infrared ranges of the spectrum. At a long-standing agrochemical research station operating since 1967, studies continue on the effectiveness of mineral, organic, and organo-mineral fertilization systems in a four-field grain-fallow crop rotation under the dry steppe conditions of Buryatia.
As part of an agreement with the East Siberian State University of Technology and Management, field tests are being conducted on the use of an acidic biostimulator to determine the profitable production of spring wheat grain in rainfed farming in the arid areas of the Republic of Buryatia.
Work continues on improving the Buubei sheep breed. For this, an experimental group of 15 lambs has been formed, and the lambs were weighed at birth, as well as the rams and ewes at one year old to obtain the main measurements of the animals. Analysis of the chemical composition and calculation of the nutritional value of a protein-vitamin granular feed supplement for young sheep was carried out based on feed sample studies at the FSBI “VNIIZH,” and preparation of components for a new batch of the feed supplement is also ongoing.
Following the inspection, it was noted that the experimental work has been set up according to the methodological requirements and is in good condition. The results obtained provide a basis for further assessment of the effectiveness of the varieties studied, agricultural technologies, and plant nutrition techniques, as well as for the subsequent development of scientifically-based recommendations for the region's agricultural production.
