A memorial plaque dedicated to the outstanding scientists – the Academician Alexander Semenovich Donchenko and the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Nikolai Aleksandrovich Donchenko – was installed on the building of the Institute of Experimental Veterinary Science of Siberia and the Far East, a structural division of the Siberian Federal Scientific Centre of Agro-BioTechnologies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Krasnoobsk). The opening ceremony of the memorial plaque was attended by the heads and staff of the Institute of Experimental Veterinary Science of Siberia and the Far East (IEVSS&FE), SFSCA RAS, and friends and relatives of the scientists.
Opening the memorial meeting, Kirill Sergeevich Golokhvast, Director of the SFSCA RAS, noted the significant contribution of the Academician Alexander Semenovich Donchenko to the development of veterinary science, the creation of an effective system for combating animal diseases and epidemics.
“At first, our relationship was difficult; he treated me as if I were just a newcomer to the SFSCA RAS, Kirill Golokhvast admitted. But one day, after long conversations, he told me, ‘I understand you!’ And that was perhaps the most significant reward for me as the head of the scientific center. His experience, advice, and guidance were significant and important not only for me, but for every employee of the institute he headed, and for the entire SFSCA RAS. I consider ourselves very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Alexander Semenovich Donchenko and his son, Nikolai Alexandrovich. Their lives and contributions to science are an example not only for the current but also for many future generations of scientists. And the memorial plaque on the building of the Institute of Experimental Veterinary Medicine of Siberia and the Far East will forever serve as a reminder of this."
The head of the IEVSS&FE, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Gavrilovich Glotov, the head of the Siberian Physical-Technical Institute of Agrarian Problems (SIBPTI) – a structural division of the Siberian Federal Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences Victor Valentinovich Alt, and the chief researcher of the laboratory of tuberculosis of agricultural animals, Doctor of Veterinary Sciences Yuri Ivanovich Smolyaninov spoke about their friend. They shared their personal impressions of their interactions with Alexander Semenovich Donchenko and Nikolai Alexandrovich Donchenko, reminisced about the scientific and personal journeys of these outstanding researchers, and expressed their appreciation for their scientific legacy. Alexander Gavrilovich Glotov recalled that advance copies of Alexander Semenovich Donchenko's latest book would be published in the coming days and expressed confidence that it would find a worthy place on the shelves of universities and research centers.
Participants of the meeting laid flowers at the memorial plaque dedicated to the outstanding scientists – the Academician Alexander Semenovich Donchenko and the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Nikolai Alexandrovich Donchenko.
