        News section

The Kemerovo Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture - branch of SFSCA RAS conducts breeding work to create varieties of naked grain oats, which are characterized by high quality parameters such as protein, oil, sugars content. The protein of naked oats has the highest nutritional value among grain crops due to the presence of essential amino acids and their better balance. Sugars contain mucus-forming polysaccharides (β-D-glucans) which act as a natural antibiotic. Sterols, tocopherols and tocotrienols of naked grain oats are antioxidants. The absence of films in naked oats reduces processing costs. These and other factors determine the possibility of using naked grain oats in children's and dietary nutrition, pharmaceutics, cosmetology, food industry, when feeding young animals and poultry.

Thanks to its high quality indicators naked oats in the diet has a versatile effect on the human body: reduce cholesterol levels and normalize blood sugar levels, binds and removes from the gastrointestinal tract radionuclides, heavy metals and other toxic substances, keeps the body in good shape, improves immunity and endurance.

Since 1992, the Kemerovo Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture, branch of the SFSCA RAS, has carried out extensive work on creating new genotypes of grain oats with improved agrobiological, technological and biochemical characteristics using intraspecific and distant hybridization methods. For this purpose, the extensive source material is studied in order to search for the sources of economically valuable traits; in addition, the crosses include the samples representing wild and weed-field oat species, as well as species with different ploidy (di-, tetra-, hexaploid): A. fatua, A. sterilis, A. magna, A. barbata, A. murphyi, A. macrostachya, A. byzantina, A.strigosa subsp. nudibrevis L.

The breeding program to create varieties of naked oats in the Kemerovo Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture, branch of SFSCA RAS, is conducted in various directions, the main of which is to increase productivity, improve the quality of grain, reduce leaching of filmy grains and pubescence of the grain, increasing resistance to damage by leaf diseases and accumulation of seed infection, etc.

As a result of long-term work 7 varieties of grain oats have been created, today there are 3 varieties in the State Register: Pomor, Gavrosh and Ofenya for which the Kemerovo Research Institute of Agriculture, branch of SFSCA RAS, original seed production is carried out, and more than 50 tons of high-quality conditioned seeds are produced annually, which are widely demanded by commodity producers in Kemerovo, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Tyumen, Novgorod, Kursk regions, Altai and Krasnoyarsk region, the Republic of Kazakhstan, etc. These varieties are used in the production of forage, as well as in the food industry.

        Naked oats POMOR

Originators: FSBIS Siberian Federal Scientific Centre of Agro-BioTechnologies RAS, FSBSI "N.I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources".

        Authors: Isachkova O.A., Ganichev B.L., Loskutov I.G.

Middle-late, the vegetational season 79-95 days. The weight of 1000 grains 25-33 g. In the Kemerovo region, the addition to the standard variety Levsha was 3.3 c/ha with an average yield of 21.4 c/ha. The maximum yield of 44.5 c/ha was obtained in 2008 in the Tomsk region. Resistance to lodging is at the level of standard varieties. In drought tolerance in the year of manifestation of the trait it is inferior to the varieties Levsha and Tyumensky naked up to 1 point. Valuable by quality. The content of protein is 13,1-19,5%. Grain fat content is 550-680 g/l. Moderately susceptible to dust brand; susceptible to crown rust and bacterial blight.

It is included in the state register of breeding achievements approved for use since 2011.

        Naked oats GAVROSH

Originators: FSBIS Siberian Federal Scientific Centre of Agro-BioTechnologies RAS, FSBSI "N.I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources".

        Authors: Isachkova O.A., Ganichev B.L., Loskutov I.G., Maximova E.E.

The variety is of food and grain-fodder function. Middle-early, the vegetational period is 65-83 days. The weight of 1000 grains is 23-32 g. In the Kemerovo region the increase to the standard variety Pomor was 3 c/ha with an average yield of 19.4 c/ha. The maximum yield of 45.7 c/ha was obtained in 2013 in the Kemerovo region. By its resistance to lodging it is at the level of the standard varieties Sibirsky naked and Pomor, by drought tolerance in the year of manifestation of the trait it exceeds them up to 1 point. Valuable by quality. Protein content is 13,9-17,5%. Grain unit is 540-660 g/l. Does not contain gluten. Resistant to dust brand. It is characterized by very low leaching of filmy grains - up to 0.5%.

It is included in the state register of breeding achievements approved for use since 2014.

         Naked oats OFENYA

Originators: FSBIS Siberian Federal Scientific Centre of Agro-BioTechnologies RAS.

         Authors: Isachkova O.A., Ganichev B.L.

The variety is of food and grain-fodder function. Midseason-ripening. The vegetational period is 80-84 days. The weight of 1000 grains is 28-35 g. Average yield is 26,6 c/ha. The maximum yield is 61,7 c/ha. Grain unit is 555-620 g/l. Resistant to lodging and drought. Protein content is up to 15,9%. Resistant to dust brand and head smut, and is moderately susceptible to crown rust. The caryopsis pubescence is medium. Exhibits high plasticity.

It is included in the state register of breeding achievements approved for use since 2020.
